I suggest you check out DotNetNuke. It is by far the fastest way to build a fully featured web site, it's Open Source VB.NET and best of all it is FREE. I built my site http://www.greenmarines.com in only two weeks with a forum, photo gallery, chat, news, blogs, and more.

This is a valid wsdl file. The proxy creator utility in VS 2003 IDE accepts it and tries to create a proxy, but it fails to create one. The message is as follows:
------------------
Micorosoft IDE Message:
Could not find a part of the path "C:\Documents and Settings\computer
user\Application Data\Microsoft\Visual Studio\7.1\TempWebDiscovery\
4c008bfc-605a-497b-bfbe-54d82d2341ed\TestWsdl\DishSvc.wsdl
----------------------------
TempWebDiscovery exists as well ss the directory name in code that follows, but it is empty.
The url of the web service exists, but not created with Microsoft Products.
Is it the present state of 'interoperability'?

Don't know.
But the errmess looks a lot like one I frequently got lately. Have you tried to Rebuild Solution, closing VS, reboot your pc? The first usually fixes my problems. A long shot, but anyway...

Could you dscribe in what context you got this message?

Interesting, very interesting, indeed.
I think these Folders which have long names(some code) are like Blackholes where you dump in these troubled items so that they somehow gets flushed out.
If I find out what is happening, I will let you know.
Thanks.

I am trying to have a table loaded dynamically from a database when an HTML button is pressed. My code looks as follows:
In the section:
<%
Dim objConn
Dim connStr
Dim TableName1, TableName2
Dim strQuery
Dim rsMessage
Set objConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
connStr ="PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=" + Server.MapPath("combine.mdb")
objConn.Open(connStr)
TableName1 = "VCC Combine"
TableName2 = "San Jose Combine"
strQuery = "SELECT * FROM ["+TableName2+"]"
Set rsMessage = objConn.Execute(strQuery)
%>
Sub VCCCombine_Click()
strQuery = "SELECT * FROM ["+TableName1+"]"
End Sub
Sub SanJoseCombine_Click()
strQuery = "SELECT * FROM ["+TableName2+"]"
End Sub
In the BODY section:
In the TABLE section:
<% While Not rsMessage.EOF
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Player").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("School").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Position").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Height").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Weight").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Vertical Leap").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Bench Reps @ 185lbs").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("Bench Reps @ 135lbs").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("20-Yard Shuttle").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
%><%=(rsMessage.Fields.Item("40-Yard Shuttle").Value)%><%
Response.Write("")
rsMessage.MoveNext
Wend
objConn.Close()
%>
If I don't add the buttons, the table gets loaded correctly. I really would like to have the Table change when the button is selected. Any ideas here would be appreciated...

You are mixing server side code with client side code.
Consider these two rules:
1. The server side code and the client side code never exist in the same place.
2. The server side code and the client side code never exist at the same time.
The code on the server side is connecting to the database, getting the data and putting the data in the code that will become the html table. Then the recordset is closed (only you forgot to do this), and the connection is closed. After that, the page is sent to the browser.
In the browser, when you click a button, all it does is to put a value in a variable that is called strQuery. It uses the variables TableName1 or TableName2, but they are empty. You had variables with the same names in the server code, but those variables are long gone, and they existed in a completely different place.
Once the strQuery variable has gotten a value, nothing happens. You don't have a database connection or a recordset, and there is no code that does anything at all with the value in the strQuery variable.
To get a look at what's going on, once the page loads in the browser, use the View Source command to look at the page code that the server code has created. You will see your two subroutines, the two buttons, and a table with text in it. That's all that you have at that point.
If you want the contents of the table to change, you have to reload the page so that the server code is executed to create a new page. You have to send something to the server so that the server code can determine what choise you have made. One way is to simply make the buttons into submit buttons, then you can use Request.Form to check which one of the buttons wass pressed.

When I use MsgBox() in my ASP code, written out as VBScript code, then my dialog window box appears with the title prefixed with "VBScript:". So if the title of the dialog window was suppose to be "Save changes", it looks like "VBScript: Save changes". Is there any way to not display the "VBScript:" label?

I'm getting this JavaScript error message in my application (which is C#, written in .NET 2002, running on .NET Framework v1.0):
"The callee (server [not server application]) is not available and disappeared; all connections are invalid. The call did not execute."
This is the situation:
The homepage has several usercontrols. The important ones are
1. A User control that provides a menu bar.
This menu bar contains 4 links - 2 are to external websites, the other 2 are links to open internal modeless popup windows.
2. A user control that provides a link to a pdf document, which is opened using acrobat in IE.
Scenario1: When I go into the homepage, and click the link, everything's fine - the pdf is displayed.
Scenario2: Click the menu control for one of the external sites. This opens in new window. Return focus to the homepage of my site and click the pdf link. Everything's fine - the pdf is displayed.
Scenario3: Click this menu control to open one of the popups. The popup is displayed correctly as a modeless dialog window. Return focus to the homepage and click the pdf link.
In this scenario, the page will not open. In the development environment the code breaks with the above message. This happens regardless of whether the popup window is still open, or has ben closed.
The user control for the pdf link looks like this:
<%@ Control Language="c#" AutoEventWireup="false" Codebehind="PdfLinkUserControl.ascx.cs" Inherits="MyCompany.Web.UI.UserControls.HomePage.PdfLinkUserControl" TargetSchema="http://schemas.microsoft.com/intellisense/ie5"%>
Click Here
The function is in a separate .js file in the solution
function popupWindow(sUrl)
{
window.open(sUrl);
}
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read it all
By the way, I've seen a lot of sites suggest that this has to do with popup blockers, but I don't have any, so I know its not that in this case.
Thanks again

Hi,
I need to build a huge web application and I want to try and sort out my folder hierarchy. I'm using Visual Web Developer Express with Framework 2.0. I want to group all related files in one folder. Currently I have started but not sure if it is right. There are many ways, I know, but I want to follow industry standards. Can someone please give me a basic guideline on file structures when creating an applicaion.
I have it like this so far:
root
App_Code
common (used for global variables)
components
BLL
DAL
App_Data
App_Themes
images
includes
stylesheets
javascript
I want to include alot of stuff, like email utilities, page settings, images, includes files (user controls) like headers and footer, exception, page errors, rich textbox editor, menus, etc. I like the way that DotNetNuke and Rainbow starter kits did it. I don't want to to through all my files in one directory, but have them neatly organised.
Please can you people advise!!
Regards,
ma se
