Interesting thought...
US FAA regulations do not allow for drones flying over people. But doesn't seem to say anything about flying next to them...

FAA rules quick version, do not fly over 400 feet, do not fly over crowds, do not fly over stadiums, do not fly in National Parks and do not fly within 5 miles of the airport.
I guess you can fly near a person but most-likely they know what you are doing if you are in a crowd and a quad crash on you it would not be a good day.
Be smart and fly safely you will have more fun and everyone gets to go home.

The storm has passed; for us, it was a wind and rain event, but we came out without major issues.
From a co-worker in Florida:
There are still over 100K out of the 140K in this county without power.
So, while the media may sensationalize, at the end of the day, real people are still being affected.

My first reaction to your post's title was "oh, goodie, I was afraid I might've missed something". But you're absolutely right--the non-stop coverage really turns one into a cynic.

I'm sure they bought backup batteries, and generators... to recharge their cameras, other equipment and sat-comms to get the story out. (Also sure despite the mass property damage, these folks will find one of the seveely limited places to stay, and of course help use up the dwindling food/water remaning locally while waiting for the authorities/FEMA to get vital [re]supply lines up ....)
But good to know they are there because everybody wants that news to be more than 2 seconds old (satellite link delay). Oh look, another group of homeless people looking for food/shelter - no wait, over there: another upside down car, and there's that that fallen down house again...

Glad you're OK. We are still with the kids in North Carolina. We cannot return until we are assured that we will find gas along the I95 all the way down to central Florida. So we plan to sit out another day or two.
Get me coffee and no one gets hurt!
