Thank YOU, Mike. You're the reason we keep the hamster wheels spinning, and why others contribute, hang out, and make the community what it is.

Stick a reminder to your calendar for the 10 year anniversary
I made my reminder about a year ago and was totally (positive) surprised when my google calendar popped up the message this morning

Dear Microsoft - you elaphanters are done. With Windows 10 you've decided to push out sh*t bricks of updates that break installed software. What won't run? Ah yes, some exe called outlook.exe.
You are rapidly accelerating to the dust bin of please just go away.
for those of you on Windows 10, the next wonderful, we'll make your world safer by elephanting up what works update, it ain't so wonderful.
Don't ask me how I really feel.

I've been on W10 both at home and work for ages without any problems
So tell me, how do you "really" feel today

to be honest w10 vs w7, I don't see the benefit of the 10:
- it's no longer faster,
- it's no longer safer (some would even say less so),
- there's no absolute must-haves in it,
and conversely:
- it's having a hell of a lot more problems with each and every update,
- a lot more problems with 3rd party software,
- a lot more problems defining ones own choices of certain applications
...so why?
Please provide a GOOD reason.

No weird registry view issues.
It does run faster, and has a smaller footprint.
It is decidedly safer. Properly configured Secure Boot makes a mockery of rootkits.
And yeah, the software library is a mild issue, though proper use of compatibility mode will mitigate a multitude of issues.

no idea bout registry view issues, so far seems same to me.
doesn't run faster, tests show equivalence. Of course ms "tests" shows a tuned 10 vs basic 7 (often not even equivalent hardware), but elsewhere truth comes out. 7 is more tunable than 10 (stopping services etc).
rootkits is only 1 form of attack, and less common these days now there are tools to protect (even for xp).
software compatibility, how about ms continuously changing people preferences? Just wastes peoples time putting things back they way THEY want THEIR system.

So it looks to me like the real issue lies in the YMMV factor.

Drivers problems if you buy a new computer...
New Hardware is not being supported in Win7 anymore (probably because windows is paying to make manufacturers help them to port users to win 10, or not paying them for win7 drivers to which manufacturers say "screw you", at the end of the day is still a business and no profit means no work)

that's just crap, new hardware is being supported in 7, drivers are out there.
Sure windows update ignores them but every vendor is putting out windows 7 drivers on their own site. You think vendors are going to cut off over half their market because ms asked them?
It's not even wise to use windows update for drivers except for perhaps the most common equipment, they always run behind the manufacturers updates. (Even some intel drivers wu can be 2 - 3 versions behind.)

What pissed me off is that Redmond appears to have pushed out an update that broke one of my VMs. A critically needed please stop crashing VM. Of course, this update was one of those "would you like to update?" Not now MS, not now. Okay, I'll wait till you're not watching.
Of course, I didn't connect the dots until I went over to reddit. The VMware group over there has far better support than the communities on vmware.com, others griping as well.
Last night, MS again knocked on my laptop to update something and "tada!!" it all works now.
Oh wait, office is broken. Hmm, dig around, it's not the first time. In fact, I think the Office team is so used to being hosed by OS updates, they've written their own little utility to put all the pieces back together. While reading, one of the useful idiots from MS posts "we're sorry you're having trouble, but software is complicated." It occurs to me that I think MS has an AI answering user rants in the forums.

Really.... and here's why - every response is formed into some mealy mouthed whine of concern. And the answers are so general and vague.... but I said it mostly as a joke.
