Question

Is it possible to have a start-up without a pretentious blog?

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting.
Validate By Changing The Test ?

Boss told me to read the product development manual.

Got into the Validate and Verify section; came across this...

Quote:
"...The validation team is encouraged to critique and modify the test plan wherever appropriate..."

Critique, yes, definitely.

Modify ??? uhhhh,,,, did I miss something ?

In the mean time, I'm the lowly nerd, whose charter in life is to write the code.

If I write code for a test, I can write it and I will pass the test.

If the Validation and Verification team can change the test (especially if they are encouraged to do so) then we will never succeed at anything.

So I want to make some sort of comment about this. I also want to be loved and needed and wanted; and a job and paycheck mean a lot.

What do I do ? Just shut up and pretend I'm smart ? Time to make a statement ?

Needs and Gifts

A website I put together.[^]

Thought I'd get feedback from the folks here on the concept, plus I'm interested in promoting the idea.

There are some similar sites, such as http://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/[^] - it was actually interesting to see how they implemented this site, as I had put mine together before even hearing about Lotsa Helping Hands, and then was pleased to discover that there was a lot of commonality in thinking. I friend of mine out in the Bay Area also told me about http://www.avenidas.org/village[^] which was in part the impetus for creating a website for something that was implemented locally here where I live, but as a "pen & paper" implementation. It never took off, the "Needs and Gifts Board" is currently relegated to some back room of the local library.

So, if you can use it, enjoy!

(Oh, and it's a Ruby on Rails project, I may write an article about it, but right now I'm teaching myself ASP.NET MVC 4 / Razor and want to compare it to my RoR experiences - and that I will write about.)
Errm, it's not the Jraphic Interchange Format

The inventor of GIF insists it should be pronounced JIF[^]. Okay, the G at the start stands for Graphic - not Jraphic, which sounds like it should apply to something with a really long neck.
Science's Forgotten Roots

For anyone who is interested, some of my discoveries are now available on my blog. Eighteen years of work to get to the bottom of three-thousand-year-old thinking! Enjoy[^]!

For those who like more context, there are four blog entries, each about 900 words. By the end you will better understand how today's science stems from religious ideas long ago. Putting everything together was harder than any programming I ever did!

Maybe now I can get back to some more software design, and be more active here.
Mars Science Laboratory: Time Lapse - Sol 0 - Sol 281

I seem to remember there is a good number of Curiosty Rover fans here, so I thought I'd share a video I made last night: http://youtu.be/3FH6QPAD-BU[^]

This is a time lapse video created from the Raw Images available at http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/[^]. It was created from using only Full Data Product images from the Front Left Hazcam, and shows the Rover's journey so far.

Quote:
Curiosity sends back raw images for current and prior Sols based on commands sent by the mission team. The rover uses orbiters to relay back a lot of its data, and maximizes each opportunity when they pass by overhead. Curiosity stores any data not transmitted onboard. The rover will send back this data on later Sols according to the mission team's science and engineering priorities. That means these pages update whenever data comes back. Images are filed in the Sol the rover took the picture, not the Sol on which the rover sent the image back to Earth.

So some Sol's don't have all their images yet, making the video a bit more jumpy in some places than others. I hope to update this from time to time as more pictures are downloaded from Curiosity.
Ahhh the joys of re-engineering

Over the last couple of days I have massively re-engineered my iPhone game.

It's been seriously stressing - having to change screeds of code to take it from working but not efficiently, to working again but more efficiently - with no point between being even able to build without error.

And the end result?

77 OpenGL Draw calls per frame - down from nearly 600
Much more efficient code in general
A nice (IMHO) MVVM-style architecture
Mainly XML defined (so flexible)

While the time in-between was stressful, the euphoria at the end is what keeps me coding!

If only someone wold pay me for doing this!

Just had to tell someone - the wife doesn't give a toss about my 'little game', the boy doesn't appreciate the technology (although he likes my animations) and the mistress (oops, I've said too much)

MVVM # - I did it My Way
